Read my complete post two above — you even quoted it earlier. Yes, I have owned both and kept the mk i!
Oh okay, I thought that post was from another person and had it the other way around (Keeping the MK II and returning the MK I). That is good to know. Hopefully I am able to get they $475 MK I that's available on B&S right now. Still going to keep an eye on that sigma 17-40 f1.8 for the future though.

No I know the Sigma 18-50 is not an art lens, when I reference "the art lens" here I am talking about the 17-40 that sigma launched. later in the thread I realized that Sigma is offering a 17-40 ART that I had not considered previously.
Hmmm… I think you included the wrong quote with this post. I didn’t mention the Sigma lens and I don’t claim to know annything about it.

Dylan Goldby from Fuji Love Magazine did a long term use review of the Sigma 18-50mm lens on his YouTube channel. He chose the Sigma over the 16-55mm. I also chose the Sigma as an all around lens for my X-T3. Less expensive and much smaller than the 16-55mm. I previously had the 16-55 MKi. Great lens but front heavy to cary around all day when hiking.

Fuji 16-55 II if you plan to travel with it. The I is exceptional but the weight gets annoying after a long day of shooting. All of the red badge lenses have amazing optics in my experience.

I've owned the mk1 twice, and now have the mk2. Mk2 has vastly improved ergonomics and has a higher magnification at the same MFD. IQ at MFD is fantastic; So much so that it can replace a short macro like the 30mm 2.8 for me. It is so small and a joy to travel with, unlike the old brick. If I were you, I'd bite the bullet and buy the mk2, as it will hold value longer. The mk1 is losing resale value by the day.

I have the Mk II and wish I had kept the Mk I. I may sell the MkII if I can find a good deal on a mint Mk1.
The new lens is cheap feeling in the hand with a creaky zoom ring that belongs on a lesser lens. It is lighter and smaller but any improvement in image quality is evident mostly when pixel peeping. I don’t see much improvement in practical terms.
The old lens is definitely bigger and may be more at home on an XH2 than on a smaller body but it is better built, smoother in operation and just generally feels more like a premium lens.
