p.1 #1 · Anyone using Pentax 645 FA 300mm f5.6 lens? need measurements-will use on GFX 100S
I just ordered a used lens from Japan and it will ship to NJ. In advance of it getting here can anyone measure the lens barrel diameter near the mount? I would like to retrofit a third party or another lens maker's rotating tripod collar. I will be using this lens with a Fringer auto focus adapter on a Fuji GFX 100S.
Thanks in advance

Sorry, can't help with the size. But the Fringer for Contax 645 lenses has its own small foot. It doesn't appear to be included with the Pentax but maybe it could be added. Do you already have the Fringer?

I contacted Fringer suggesting they make a Pentax 645 adapter with a foot and they told me that user feedback during development was to make it without the foot. Seems strange as the adapter and most of the Pentax lenses one is likely to want to use result in front heavy setups for tripod use.

The little foot on the Fringer C645-Gfx is really short but is functional in a Arca Swiss clamp. But you can't use it as a carrying handle like larger feet on lenses. I think they didn't want it to be larger than the adapter is long which I understand. I think that a lens foot would be better centered plus the ability to rotate if equipped and there is one available. I would like the same for my Contax 210 but don't see anything available for these old lenses.

All true, but you can always put a longer arca swiss plate on a short foot if needed. I'm using a lot of P645 lenses and even the small 150mm f3.5 feels front heavy once you add the adapter. The otherwise excellent 80-160mm f4.5 is pretty much unusable on a tripod.
The Pentax 645 has its film back behind the tripod mount making for a more balanced setup with smaller lenses.
