My big and little brother E series cameras. Oh my, both are outstanding! The E2 has the Fuji pancake 27mm lens mounted and the E-5 has the Fuji 23/2,8. Gotta love Fuji cameras!

"Looks like a 23 f2 on the XE5 to me 🤷🏼" right you are, Jack... the 23/2 pairs well on the X-E5.
I have a Fuji 15-45 coming and am eager try it on the X-E5.
I don't even think Fuji knows what their intentions are. They parlayed their demand into a premium price point. Not saying that's a good or bad thing, but if that is their intentions, they need their products to be premium. If an X-Pro4 does come out, I'd have to think it would be around 2500-2600.

Which makes sense to me, I can't see the need for an X-E Pro. But I think Fuji should clarify their intentions.

Not really. The E2 had a pop up flash which was useful, though not pro. The E5 has the film sim dial which is useless as currently configured. Neither has weather sealing or dual card slots or pro level EVF.

That's why it is "almost there". But it clearly is on the move!

That’s the direction that I suspect things are going. I don’t think that there will ever be a “X-Pro4” in the hybrid viewfinder form that we’re familiar i with. It is possible that the XE will gradually evolve upscale to have more features (full manual controls, maybe the larger new battery and/or two slots, etc) until it is functionally equivalent to the XPro line but with just the EVF.
(If they go that way, it will be difficult to rectify the inclusion of the sim dial gimmick on a camera that purports to channel the retro old-school “pure photography”— to use Fujifilm marketing-speak — features of rangefinders.)
Design-wise the convergence seems to be with the X100vi.

X100 - X-Pro - X-E5- X-EPro - design language is important. The X-E5 has surprised me a lot. It is a near perfect little camera which I almost skipped because the Sony RX1R MkIII appeared. I am very glad that I did eventually buy one. It has solid built, great features, and competes at almost the same level with the a7cR and RX1R MkIII sensor in terms of noise. With the 16f2.8mm, 27mm and 50f2mm its perfect for many uses, but in particular City & Street. I like the reach of the 50 at 2x crop. Still great quality.
The EVF of the -E5 could have more pixels and larger magnification. But it works as is. The basic (retro) display option in the EVF and the option to display the crop in three different ways in the EVF is very useful.
Currently, I am using my X-T3 with the larger 1.2/1.4 lenses, and the X-Pro3 rather less (which is a shame). I was pondering to get the X-T5. But with the X-E5, there is really no need to add another body that even has a different battery.
Wonder if Fuji will keep the E-Line (X-E6) separate from a future X-EPRO line. Price could be a differentiating factor. €1.500 for the X-E, €2.000 and up for the X-EPRO.

The film sim dial could become a custom settings dial, which would be in line with the "pro" XH and GFX cameras.
