I have just experienced the strangest camera experience I have ever had and it was with the new X-E5, iMac and Fuji Raw Converter. To make a long story short, the X-E5 raw files will not open in the Fuji Raw converter software or in Photo/Shop unless you have the latest operating system on the iMac. I don't know if the problem exists with a PC,
I have an X-T5 and an X-T50 whose RAW files open in both the Fuji Raw Converter and in Adobe Photo Shop Elements 2025 without any issues.
Fuji Tech support said they are aware of the issue. I was told that Fuji must have upgraded the E5 RAW which is causing the problem.
It you get an X-E5 and have problems with RAW conversion, it is a know issue with Fuji.

If I'm understanding you correctly, that is not odd or unusual at all. Typically, you must have fully updated software with the newest drivers to open raw files from new cameras like this.
It is actually the norm that early adopter buyers of new release cameras may not be able to open raw files in existing software until new drivers are released.

You are right, Dan. It was the first time I had encountered this. Perhaps others have run into this. However, I find it unacceptable that Fuji released the E5 and did not update Fuji RAW converter to accommodate the camera.
I can understand how folks who are perhaps new to how new camera releases happen would be disappointed to discover that raw converters typically do not get updated immediately on the new camera release dates..
If you are one of the first buyers of a newly-released cameras, unfortunately this is something you’ll need to deal with for a month or two. (It is one reason among several to not be among those who buy new cameras on the release date… though there are compensating reasons to move fast in some cases, too.)
You MUST have the most up to date Adobe Camera RAW (18.0) to open an X-E5 file in Adobe apps. The version of the operating system has NOTHING to do with file support in 3rd party apps.
Of course you can open X-E5 files in LR and PS without having Tahoe.

That is all true, but if you want to preview the files by hitting the space bar (before you decide to open them in an app), which I often like to do, then the operating system has to support that and Apple is often slow in updating the operating system to allow that for RAW files of new cameras.
Of course that’s not what this thread is about, so it’s not even worth commenting on.

Thats why I wrote my own QuickLook extension so that it always shows the preview for unsupported cameras when hitting the space bar (also shows lossless and compressed RAF files)

Support for X-E5 RAW files was actually added in ACR 17.4, Lightroom Classic 14.4, and Lightroom 8.4. But yes, it's not OS dependent per se.
