So how do the Sigma and the CV compare to the old Pentax 28mm that was one of your favorites if I remember correctly?
I still love the Pentax, but to get the sharpest deep corners, I need to stop down to f/11. But I love the look of the images it produces, it's colors, etc. I'm using Fred's copy of the Pentax now, he noticed a midzone dip, although shooting it stopped down, I'm not sure I notice it. It is well corrected, not much CA, etc.
But the CV and Sigma are sharp across the frame at any aperture. Sigma colors are kind of warm, but that can be dealt with in post. The CV seems to vignette more. I have not compared the CV directly to the Pentax. I only got out to shoot the CV on that snowy cold day. I'm not sure I've learned all it's ins and outs.
The CV is tiny, smaller even then the Pentax (and Loxia 25). The Sigma is relatively huge, but it covers a very valuable range that I often shoot. I think Sigma could have easily put an APO label on it.
I couldn't resist (it's Tim's fault!). Had it out for the first time yesterday. Some observations:
♦ It IS small
♦ It handles quite nicely (I don't care if the focus ring is knurled instead of knobby)
♦ In the few hours I've used it, I haven't found anything I didn't like
♦ In the few hours I've used it, I experienced one instance of my A1 jumping out of magnified view. It's not the lens - all my CV and Loxia lenses do this occasionally.
♦ It's a GREAT walkabout lens!
♦ I didn't shoot anything terribly challenging yet, but so far I'm happy with the IQ.

Those shots look great! Unfortunately my only opportunity so far was kind of a dismal "after snow" set of scenery shots in flat lighting. I've yet to be able to take it out in what I'd consider more normal shooting conditions.
I love 28mm as a walkaround FL and I think this lens will be one of my absolute favorites.

I'll be interested in your thoughts regarding a comparison between this new 28 and the Loxia 25mm, which approximates a 28mm lens's field of view when cropped by about 10%. (Pairing the Loxia with the Voigtlander 50 APO works well for me. I'm pretty sure that I don't need the new 28. . . .)

I don't "need" 3/4ths (or more) of the lenses I own. The Loxia 25 is a spectacular landscape lens, and I don't expect the CV will beat it (maybe match it at best). But the Loxia 25 has a bit of LoCA in certain situations, so as an all purpose lens, if LoCA bothers you.....the CV might be a better choice. (As long as you don't might the slightly tighter field of view.)
So there's no reason to consider the CV 28 if you are perfectly happy with the Loxia 25 and don't mind cropping a bit. It is one of my all time favorite lenses.
I did some more shooting with the 28/2 APO on my A7CII earlier this week, mostly on my lunch breaks at Yokohama while the weather was good. This weekend the weather turned quite bad so I didn't shoot much at all. I'm really happy with the performance of the lens so far.
The E-mount version is starting to go out of stock in Tokyo stores (going backordered) but Fujiya Camera at Nakano still has it in stock at the moment (in case anybody is trying to buy one while visiting Tokyo). Map Camera, Yodobashi Camera and Bic Camera are out of stock / backordered now. It might take time (a few months?) before new batches arrive, as next batch of VM version is only expected around late February and Z-mount version is expected to come out next. I'm guessing Z-mount version's release date might get announced sometime towards the end of next week (or the following week).
Copied from the Leica version thread since I found that before this one. Like Juha I got mine when I was in Tokyo when the E-Mount version launched. Was lucky to actually find it in a store to buy it....Shot on A7IV, some are in crop mode some are cropped afterward in edit.
