I have used a manual focus Voigtlander 21mm f3.5 lens connected via this adapter to my Nikon z7ii for the past 3 years without a hitch. Then I bought a Tamron 150-500mm lens and decided to update my firmware to 1.70 on the Z7ii. The next time I connected the Voigtlander lens, it no longer functioned: the f number is missing and shutter won't release.
I updated the Megadap ETZ21 firmware just fine and tried versions from 1.33 to 2.02 without any solution.
I'm hoping someone could send me an earlier version of the Z7ii firmware to see if going back solves the problem. I have not reached out yet to Megadap, which some folks have found hard to communicate with.

Someone suggested I try drivers.softpedia and sure enough there was version 1.62 available and I downloaded it. Camera shows the option to "Update Firmware" so now all I have to do is get up the nerve to pull the trigger!

Successfully returned Nikon z7ii to an earlier firmware version 1.62, only to have the same issue remain.
I had my camera and lens out on a 3 day camping trip where it didn't encounter any truly bad weather and even pic I took with it was fine. After getting home, I removed the lens to play with a new lens and at the same time I updated the firmware. I did NOT turn the camera on with the Voigtlander lens still attached after getting home and confirming all still worked.
So I am going to order one of those Viltrox adapters that appears identical to the ETX21 and post what I find

I have both adapters. If you use the Viltrox, stay away from other lenses as the Voigtländers. The adapter tries to replace the real names by Nikon equivalents. However, it didn't do this for Voightländer lenses, as far as I remember.
Another issue is that Viltrox played it safe and made the adapter 1,91 mm (had the chance to get it measured) instead of 2 mm.

Thanks for info. The main reason I'm acquiring the Viltrox is in hopes that the Color-Skopar works Again. It functioned beautifully until this firmware update event occurred, for now I do not yet have any clue as to where the problem lies -- camera, lens or adapter. Thankfully I can return the Viltrox. I now realize I want to eliminate variables and that adapter is the one I wish to eliminate. I probably will be seeking a native Z-mount lens to replace the beloved Voigtlander and find it a good home. Then good riddance Megadap! IF, by chance, the Vitrox brings everything back to "normal" I may keep the Voigtlander. I like the focal length and the fact I can zone focus with it so nicely. And very sharp too! I really am eyeing the 24-120 F4 since it can also replace two other little Z-Nikkors I rarely use.

You could maybe give the Viltrox 20mm f/2.8 Air a try. Cheaper than the Megadap adapter by itself and fairly good optically. Not a manual focus beast but corners should be better than the CV 21/3.5.

Thanks for the suggestion and I'll examine it. My needs for very wide angle are pretty low now which is the reason I can "get away with" 24mm. I've done a lot of handheld and tripod based stitching so feel 24mm can suffice. I have a "50 Years Later" Photo project ongoing with Redwood National Park, where images I took as early as 1964 (even before the parks creation, which I was active in) are being matched up with images I've been taking the last 7 years, especially, since the park's 50th anniversary. I conducted my last 2 big river trips along remote stretches of Redood Creek in the park in Aug 2022 & again in 2023 when I was 80. I used mostly 24mm in 2022 and the 21mm in 2023, sitting in a pack raft or wading. I will soon try and post some of these before / after shots. My field work is now mostly near roads as I'm feeling the affects of age.

Received the Viltrox adapter and everything works. Why the Megadap no longer works on my Z7ii is any body's guess but I'm happy. I will be offering my Megadap at a good price, also with clear understanding that I will take it back if it doesn't work for the purchaser.
