p.1 #1 · Old Af lenses such as 50mm ZA 1.4 with new bodies

Hello,

I have used the ZA 50mm 1.4 in the past, but af was not consistent, and I've had too many missfocused pictures. I tried two of them but it was the same. I know I'm not the only one since Julia trotti said the same with a a7III, when comparing it to the gm 1.2

But I really liked the color, and the rendering of this lens...

I wonder how this lens behaves with modern camera such as a7iv or a7cii.

Has somebody compared this lens with old and new cameras?

I had it on A7III and A1. I saw noticeable improvement in AF (mostly speed) on the latter. In general, I wouldn't say AF was bad on A7III, though it definitely hunted more when shooting against the backlight.

I can't offer a direct comparison, but I had great results with that lens on the A7Riv. As you say, lovely colors and rendering.

PS
Your question got me wondering how it would be adapted on my Nikons.

Thanks that's good to know since I now have a A7rIV myself. I had the RIII before, and af was really not reliable with the ZA

I love my la-ea5 on my a7IV. Sony, and Minolta before them, made some great glass, some class leading. The ZA50 is excellent and on my list to try. I do love a good 50mm. I currently use the ZA24-70/2.8 And I really love the Minolta 100/2, one of the smallest af teles you can use. My favorite portrait lens I would love to see a new Sony 100/2. I also use the Minolta/Sony 70-200/2.8 G.

I have also used the Sony ZA 135/1.8. Fabulous lens with some of the best rendering. Absolutely love it. It has an old screw driven af, though.

The Minolta 200/2.8 is a gem, as is the 80-200 G. The 80-200/2.8 is screw driven only as well, and it has the most af that is both fast and violent.
