I honestly didn't know there were any ads here (other than the B&H referral links) I guess because as standard I use AdBlock Plus and uBlock (or the Brave browser on my iPad)
I moved to using Brave browser on desktop/mobile/tablet several years ago. Had no idea there are ad's here (or pretty much anywhere) at all... It transforms the Internet, I'll never go back.
Like all of the above comments I find the ads distracting, annoying, unpleasant and a range of other reactions however I wonder to what extent this, for me most valued and appreciated, site would be viable without them ??
Ad blocking is fine but when the advertisers realise that their ads are not being seen by a sufficient number of viewers would that lifeblood not dry up ??
Providing a site like this is not an inexpensive operation and those who provide it deserve a reasonable return .... and whatever return there may be is a private not a public matter - but I have yet to see Fred figuring in the latest list of billionaires.
I hope it is not necessary to add that I have absolutely no connection to this site - other than enjoying reading it for interest and learning and up-dating and occasionally using it as a trusted marketplace for buying or selling. But I really do hope it continues to thrive and provide those services in a very tough and competitive world where we have seen too many similar sites die off without replacement !
OP posted ADS as all caps, so I initially thought he was referring to Attention Deficit Syndrome. Given how many of these threads meander, it seemed, in the moment, to be plausible.
I am using Adblocker Ultimate and it works well on Firefox. Most ads on web pages are annoying at a minimum and disgusting at the worst. If the ads were actually targeted toward my interests, I would not really have a problem with them as I understand why website use them. However, when they simply destroy the enjoyment of a page or when they require you to click and click and click to remove them so that you can see a page, it is just too much.
The ad blocker has been installed on my browser for years and it makes the internet much more enjoyable and relaxing to use. It actually is quite astounding when I see other people's browsers that don't have ad blockers installed how bombarded they are with really horrible ads.

I stumbled onto your post Roberta from the "Opening Website Recent Posts".
I use AdBlocker Ultimate with the Firefox extension, and do not see 1 ad anywhere on any of my computers from ANY website. I use a VPN or not, on my PC's. And on my wife's Macbook Pro 16" Laptop, MalwareBytes. No VPN there.
