What is your camera mode dial set to? ISO AUTO Min. SS only works in "A" and "P" modes. "M" and "S" modes override any attempt at auto shutter speed with your manual setting.

That's the problem I'm having!! When shooting in M, it overrides my settings and defaults to ISO 800. In my experience with every digital camera I've ever owned, this has never been the case (not even with my old A7c).
I read that a reset solved the problem, indicating to me your problem was user error e.g. a faulty setting or an interplay of misunderstood settings.
They only work in A and P modes. The moment I switch to M, my A7iv defaults to ISO 800 regardless of my settings.
p.s. I read the manual. I also read the book by David Busch regarding the A7iv. I also read several dozen Google posts. I also viewed several YouTube videos. Please don't assume I haven't "read the manual."

That sounds strange to me. I have never held an A7iv in my hands but have a lot of experience from several other Sony FF cameras. AutoISO has worked in A, S and M mode just fine. (P mode I've never used, can't say.)
So the A7iv in still image mode, M mode defaults to ISO800 if set to AutoISO and _all_ other dependent settings are set to allow lower ISO values? Can that be right?
Well I'm sorry but I'm just as baffled as Jonas B.
There has to be a logical reason why your Auto ISO range is being overruled.
There are some custom functions that are able to override Auto ISO, such as Recall Camera Setting and Reg. Custom Shoot Set.

I too am frustrated and just as baffled as you and Jonas B! This doesn't happen on my A7c. It's only happening on my A7iv. Maybe it's a glitch in my firmware (5.01)? I have no clue at this time.

Are you sure you are still in AUTO-ISO when you switch to M?

Every camera I know of works this way including the Sony a7C and the Canon R5 and R6. Auto shutter speed only works in "A" or "P" modes. That is by design. M(anual) and S(hutter priority) modes mean you directly control shutter speed. It would make no sense to allow auto shutter speed in those modes.

We're talking about auto ISO, not auto shutter speed.
