I made several tests years ago: when I downsized high-ISO files from 45.7 to 24 Mpix, I got similar (visible, not measured) noise and more detail. BTW, I shoot two 24 Mpix cameras

Even though I also have the Z8 and Z9 bodies, there's just something about the Z7 (mine is the MK II), that I absolutely love and it's a joy shooting with it, and it's not going anywhere. I probably wouldn't use it anymore for wildlife photography (where the AF on the Z6 III, Z8 and Z9 are more suitable), but for anything else, it's a beautiful camera.

I’m still using and liking mine an awful lot. The only annoyance for me is the AF box which being colour blind I find hard to see a lot of the time. If I could have just one update to the Z7ii it would be for the fat AF box lines you get on later models.

Went from z6 to z6ii to z7ii. Very Happy for my kind of stuff (travel, hiking landscape). Purchased a Zf a year ago. Mainly for walkaround and family stuff / low light.
Would buy a z7iii with expeed7 and a little faster read out / evf + screen from z8 in an instant. z8 is just too bulky for me and I don‘t need that kind of speed.
I still think a used z6 and z7 is a bargain, but so is the z5ii for what it is.

All of this! It’s hard to imagine Nikon doesn’t hear the demand for a high res Zf or straight up Z7iii.

I have a Z8 and Z9 but I kept my Z7II for a few reasons.
1. It is the best landscape camera outside of my Hasselblad X2DII, the dynamic range on it just has that "it" factor when I start moving the sliders around.
2. Compared to everything else I own, it is tiny and is a great fit for my Peak plate mount where it can ride on a shoulder strap of a backpack.
3. It can use those really cool third party batteries with the built-in USB-C charging port, fantastic with a small solar panel while on a long trek.
The thing just works so good, I doubt I ever sell it even though I will upgrade the others.

I still use my Z6 as a second camera, often for adapting vintage lenses.
Its sensor complements the Z8 sensor perfectly and it comes in handy when the Z8's superior autofocus isn't needed, but rather its compact size and more forgiving noise performance at higher ISO settings.
There's currently no reason for me to retire the Z6.
It's still a capable camera with a wonderfully balanced 24MP sensor performance.
Its body dimensions/weight/pack size, sensor performance/file size are ideal for some applications, and in my opinion, the body feel is even a bit more premium than a Z8.
It's hard to describe, but the body has a touch more substance for its size, whereas the larger Z8 body feels a bit more plasticky and hollow.

I shoot wildlife and landscapes... I use my Z9 for wildlife, if I couldn't afford a Z8 for landscape work, I'd have no problem using either the Z7 or Z7II for landscape and macro photograpy. I only replaced my Z7II w/ a Z8 to have the same UI (user interface) as the Z9.
As others have stated, the Z7 (i or ii) are super undervalued for their capabilities.

I have a Z7ii and Zf, if I was just going to take landscape photos I would bring the Z7ii no question. As others have said in terms of image quality it is maybe the best bang for your buck of any camera, any system.
However, if AF is a concern, the new Nikon cameras really make it hard to pick it up if I feel like I'll need to be doing anything with moving subjects. It's not awful, and if you're coming from an older camera you won't mind I'm sure, but man if they would just come out with a Z7iii, heck even the Z7ii with just the new processor, I would sell both and use that exclusively.
