I'm not buying one at that price. When the Canon Store has them (refurbished) in stock (which they tend to sell out fast) they're around $700 + tax. I'd buy one if the price was around $400, but that's me

That is really not a bad price, compared to X100VI and rx100. Regular version is much less, $829, but out of stock like Fuji. I wish Canon tried to compete vs fuji more.

A digital Canonet could sell like crazy

People dont use film, old p&s's, and Fuji get the latest tech. Really a chance for Canon to pick up younger customers imo

It would have been great if they had freshened up the tech a little for a special edition of the G7X. Sounds like it's the same camera as the 2019 version under the skin. Buy hey, you get a super special wrist strap and memory card.

On a somewhat related note, I've been trying out the Canon V1, even though I don't mess with video, and it's a very respectable pocket stills camera for a reasonable price.

Do you find photography controls / adjustments hard with the video centric buttons / dials dominating the camera?

I think the lens needs to be sharpened up, and the camera needs internals of the same level that went into the R6 III - basically, it needs to be fast to operate, never miss focus, fast to focus (of course), track perfectly, and provide a plethora of video features (raw, open-gate, lots of log choices) and little to no rolling shutter.

Most of those 'extra' features are just firmware that can be ignored by the primary audience, but since they're already developed, they'd absolutely widen appeal and thus increase sales and decrease Canon's unit cost, which I suspect is the main reason for higher pricing.

Getting an update version around US$500 would be killer. This one is, frankly, ancient tech that's barely adequate for the primary target base and wholly inadequate for enthusiasts. Even if it were US$500, it'd be a hard sell.

X100VI is $1800 and out of stock. Its not selling over tech. People aren't buying it for fast af

Canon has all kinds of older gear they could refresh, reintroduce and sell to the young people buying film, old p&s's, and Fuji probably because they're sick of tech, adding new customers. Probably needs some video features so people can post videos, might not even need 4k for that

A digital Canonet might sell a ton leave it mf even, might be even more popular

I actually didn't find the camera hard to use for photography, other than not having an EVF. Since I had to be using the back screen anyway, I just used touch controls to set everything from there, after setting up the display to show only the things I wanted.

I was shooting a large student protest last week (I'm an old guy, but it was fun), and this camera wasn't intimidating to anyone. I did shoot part of the time with my R6III and nifty 50, focusing on black & white, and you can see a bit of difference in the highlight and shadow roll-off between the two cameras, but a non-enthusiast that didn't know probably couldn't say which was the cheap camera. Even face tracking on the V1 was good enough for this purpose.

Idk why they aren't selling the G1x III, or updated version, to people unable to get X100VI.

Ricoh GR IV backordered, $1500, no zoom looks like 1080 no 4k if I'm reading correctly

Older G series p&s's going for $300-600 last I checked, non commemorative version G7x III $879 B&H

Canon would do well to go after the people interested creative imaging vs more-tech-is-more-better. It's just getting much harder to make advances in tech to entice buyers.

My G7x mkII collects dust most of the time. Nothing wrong with the (slightly older) specs, but the R8 with a compact prime is more fun and justifies a tad more bulk and weight.

Or just on its own. Same sensor as the 80D or R10 for that matter. Check out the PtoP charts. Excellent 15-45 (24-70) f2.8-5.6 lens, now not so slow compared to RF-S standards. Why settle for a 1 inch sensor? The Video could use some update, maybe the AF but it is still adequate.

If you have one get the clock battery replaced before 2030 when Canon service ends. The battery isn't user replaceable.
