What are your thoughts regarding Canon starting to force users to use Digital ID to use and/or access updates to their product(s)?
Below is a copy/paste from their website.
**I think all references to 2025 should actually be 2026**

Digital camera software will require login with Canon ID
To use our digital camera software and apps and gain access to improved usability and support, you will need to login with a Canon ID starting in the first half of 2025.
Using your Canon ID to login to Canon’s digital camera software and apps will give you access to quick and easy product registration, tailored notifications about firmware, software updates, equipment notifications, new product announcements, and more to help optimize your experience with your Canon equipment.
You will also have access to other Canon services like image.canon and Creative Park.
Canon ID login will be required when using “Camera Connect” beginning in the first half of 2025, with a gradual rollout to other Canon apps and software, connecting your entire Canon experience.
By utilizing Canon ID for login across Canon software and apps, we aim to provide improved services, better communication and convenient functionality.
If you haven’t already done so, we encourage you to create your Canon ID from below button.

They’re doing this for the same reasons as every other company that already requires this. I mean, for me to use Lightroom, I had to create an Adobe account, Google, Apple…, etc.
At the moment I don’t care much because I don’t use any of Canon’s apps, but it would annoy me if it became mandatory for firmware updates.
The real outrage will hit the fan if they ever go subscription for use of equipment.
DPP for Windows 4.21.10 is the latest and not requiring it yet. Obviously there has been some delay in rolling it out. It could definitely be a pain if a new email and password are needed for like 8-10 computers.

They all need to stop saving copes of our personal information; especially, account numbers and payment methods.
They only need that if we are buying something. Most likely we will be paying for the opportunity to AI process. But I paid for a 360W video card so not interested in outsourcing the processing.
Most of us don't use Canon software, so no biggie. I won't bother with a Canon ID. I suspect the ID info is because Canon is moving towards a pay to play model for their shit software.
So you like the Adobe crapware, but this thread is for those who need software to work reliably without suddenly needing to phone home. If I had to use the LR for RAW conversion I'd quit or go back to jpeg.

Love that and other smelly shitware! Plenty of choices out there far better than Canon DPP4. Now that Canon is set to require users to submit to the mark of the beast, you might have to resort to pencils, charcoal and paint...
