I actually do want to continue using my R5 for as long as possible. My only concern is that the bottom will fall out of the used market in a couple of years or less and I will get next to nothing for it, whereas if I were sell it now I could probably still get a decent price. I'm not very experienced at buying and selling used cameras so I'm a bit unsure about what I should do. I appreciate all the input.

Is it wise for me to plan of keeping my 3 1/2-year old R5 for another 2-3 years or should I sell it as soon as I can? It's in excellent condition with only 3% use on the shutter- less than 13K actuations.
Thanks,
Rudy
I say keep it. The R5 is badass and will continue to be badass for many years to come. It does everything very very well. Keep in mind, all models will be depreciating, although at different rates, so you are always losing money no matter what model it is. I sold my last two R5's a year ago in the $1800-$1900 range and they only had a few thousand clicks on M shutter. I think a year later they are still holding their value very well. I actually liked the R5 better for hybrid shooters, because they installed the stupid photo/video switch on the R5II, which is a move backward for a hybrid shooter. I say wait for the R5III and see if it's even worth upgrading, you may decide it's not.

Now that the R5II has already been included in promotions, the price for used R5Is has already dropped significantly. I think it will only drop significantly again when the R5III comes onto the market in a few years.
Why not try selling the camera at a price that's right for you? If it works, you can upgrade. If not, you can continue using it. It's not going to get any worse.

Hi Jefff,
I do about 90-95% video and 5-10% stills so my 13K shutter counter actually represents a huge amount of operating time on this camera. I have used it about 9 hours a week for last 164 weeks since I bought it in Oct 2022 - that's about 1500 hours.
Once I've purchased a camera item I figure the money is spent and don't count on any financial return for used gear. However, the transition from EF to RF was a major transition and selling all of my EF related gear to B&H paid for almost half of my initial RF gear. I've added some since. YMMV as they say.
OTOH if you think your video use has worn out your R5 without affecting shutter actuations then ... well?
What did you do with the big teles? The 600/4 IS II or IS III are still usable, but not worth so much compared to the RF, and likewise the 400/2.8 RF. Replacing the 500/4 IS II made no sense to me, nor the 300/2.8 IS II, and so many EF lenses are not really replaceable.
The rollon shutter is still a thing in videos, isn't it?
