Novice Buddhist nuns at a hillside nunnery in Himachal Pradesh, India. The last two are images of their instructors. Some youngsters are actually brought in by their parents who might not have the means to look after them. All in all, these girls were just as rambunctious as any boys. Sometimes, because of their shaved heads it was hard to tell their gender at this age.
Yes! What struck me was how normal these girls were. They got into arguments, they pushed one another, and they also hugged when they saw a friend. They behaved like little girls everywhere. If it wasn't for the context, you would not know they were training to be nuns.

Great series here Charles!
I could not tell whether they were male of female. At that age anyway.
Nice work brother!
Dan
Thanks, Dan. I was convinced that a couple of them were boys, under care of nuns. But I eventually realized that at such a young age, and devoid of other associations, such as long hair and feminine clothing, it is really hard to tell, but they were all definitely girls!
