p.2 #3 · New Wideluxx update - The Dude receives production #s 00001 and 00002!
“ Each camera is individually prepared for its owner, including engraved initials specified at order, with additional customization options selected later in the production process.”
The problem with engraving your initials is it may make it a harder sell later if you try to unload it.
You also have to put down the full $4400 to preorder, then wait 6-8 months for them to make it.
They already have sold half the initial allotment.

The engraving is inside the camera (in the back I presume), so it's not a large monogram on the top plate (I presume).
They are doing this so they can avoid having people cancel the order when it is time to deliver cameras. I guess German business laws allow for consumer protection on normal orders, but not nearly as much for "custom" orders.
This and the statement about some design details may not match the images, etc. makes me not really willing to commit to an order. TBF, I just need a reason to not order one, as it wouldn't really get much use by me too regularly probably.
I still say that if they made a mechanical version of the XPan body, I'd be all over it, cost be damned.

You are right, the engraving is inside the camera so basically only done so you cannot back out of your order as it is also mandatory! Which is kinda shady IMO.
These initials will be engraved inside your camera, marking your place in the first chapter of WideluxX
Personalized Monogram (Required)
Please note: This product is individually customized. By placing this order, you acknowledge that the statutory right of withdrawal does not apply.
And the fact that they say the actual camera will look different than the pre-production unit they show is - for me - worrisome.
They basically are asking for a non refundable full payment of $4400 for a camera that the details and construction have not been finalized.
I understand that the images shown are pre-production prototypes and that the final product will differ in details.
And you can expect delivery within eight months, but if there is no delivery after 12 months you can ask for a refund.
Refund: Full refund if not shipped within 12 months

You might be able to buy a used one in 8 months, after some realize how niche and demanding this camera is to use.
Let's be honest - the main reason The Dude's pics are so interesting is because of the subject matter and location. He is on set taking pics of famous actors with or without him in it. The images immediately grab you because of that - and in no way I am criticzing this, he is just very fortunate that this is how life has turned out for him.
A regular shmo who spends $4400 + tarifs + $172 shipping may be sorely disappointed that he/she is not able to recreate the magic that The Dude has demonstrated. And may realize for the shooting they actually do, Kendal's Contax would be a much better fit.
