Is there a comparative study on the subject in terms of IQ at F4 and above?
The point of buying Tamron 35-100mm is f/2.8. Technically Sony 24-105mm is sharp enough for anything when stopped down. However, I always considered it having somehow flat rendering. It was a lens I used for many years but never liked.
Tamron might have some extra appeal if you need moderately priced zoom for a photography where f/2.8 and longer than 70mm focal length is needed.
I haven't seen anything, but I'd be very surprised if the Tamron weren't the better performer at f/4 in the shared range. It's a very impressive lens. Very low distortion at 35 and high and nicely even resolution across the frame. It loses quite a bit of oomph at the long end with resolution and shows the highest distortion (pin, where it's lighter barrel at 35) but I don't find it any less useable than the 24-70/2.8GMII at its longest end. Flare resistance is decently strong for a zoom. It's got a nice feel and appears as well sealed as any of their f/2.8 lenses. It's a great value for the money.
That said, the more expensive Sony has some things you might miss that make its minor optical shortcomings irrelevant. It's only about 100g heavier, it has OSS, and it has 24-34mm, which may not seem like a big deal, but, if you're after a single lens solution, I'm betting it will be. I've had several 35-70 zooms, and a couple that started at 28. I never took them without also taking a wider solution.

I hope that helps”
I cannot comment on 35-100, but I had 24-105 before and although there was nothing wrong with the lens, I just didn't find it fun to use and didn't like the pictures it produced. I upgraded to 35-150 and couldn't be happier. I don't shoot wider than 35 most of the time anyway, so for me 35+ range is completely acceptable. Wide range of members here find that not wide enough though so YMMV. I have seen some samples from that shot on the Nikon Forum and it think 35-100 looks fantastic.
