This can be a perfectly find decision depending on how you use the camera. I used to shoot the Z6 with landscapes and there were only two things that were annoying - single tilt screen (I shoot close to the ground in both orientation A LOT) and limited programmability of the buttons. Not enough to splurge on a Z6iii or Z8 for that alone.
That is the thing, the Z6 already does a LOT. I have very few gripes with it, besides the single card slot and 24MP being at the lower limit for the size of prints I want to make.

First-time poster here. Started DSLR with a D7000 years ago, then got away from it. I just went to Antarctica and bought a used D800 for that, which rekindled my interest. Have been playing with the D800 trying to shoot birds in the forest around my house and considering mirrorless options. I just pulled the trigger on a Z6iii with the 24-70 f/4 kit lens and a FTZII during this refurb sale, as the price seemed too good to pass up. Excited to start trying it out in a couple of days.

First off, welcome! You'll love the Z6 III. Amazing IQ, speed, and video in a small body. You'll definitely enjoy it!

depending on your requirements it might be good enough to upgrade to a Z5II. .
The AF is definitely faster than my Z7 AF

With the 90-day warranty it is obvious that Nikon has little confidence in its repairs on cameras and lenses.
That's not really how it works.
Product cost always includes expected repairs; Nikon could be HIGHLY confident, expecting a 0.01% return/repair rate, but that doesn't change that the affected cost of that rate exists. If they offer a 90-day warranty instead of a 1-year warranty, they can cut that expected cost down by 75%, and that can be part of the refurbished price.
If they were REALLY unsure of these, they either wouldn't offer their Nikon Care package on refurbished products, or it would be *more* expensive than it is on new units.
But that's not the case.
They're just offering you the lowest price they can, with an option to spend more for longer coverage.

You're arguing with one of the most unhelpful, disingenuous visitors to the Nikon forum. His long absence had given me false hope of a permanent exit
It's a "body" sale this time around. It's been interesting seeing them consistently place the Zf about $200 over the Z5 II despite being the same camera in different shells.

Not as weird as a Z7 II being less than a Z7 though

People are willing to pay a premium for the Zf because of its looks.
