I was out walking along a nearby river where I met this gold miner from Kansas panning for gold. Struck up a nice conversation and he was happy to show off some of the gold in his pan. I then asked if I could do a quick impromptu portrait of him and he obliged. He kind of reminds me of Todd Hoffman one of the original gold miners from Discovery Channel's Gold Rush TV series!

I tried four shots altogether, here are the other 3 and in color. I thought I initially posted the best one and I liked the B&W but let me know if you prefer color and/or one of the other compositions. I only had about a minute to do these as another person came by with their dog and interrupted us.

Great capture and story Scott!
When I lived in S. Oregon, there were abandoned gold mines everywhere. Never panned for gold though!

Thank you Dan, I've only done it a couple of times and it was fun! I can see how people get "gold rush fever"! I've got a friend who got into it a couple years ago and he has found nearly an ounce of gold in a couple years panning and running a small gravity fed dredge in creeks throughout Colorado.

Had to be a real rush to actually see gold spec/nuggets in your pan!
Glad you got to photography and talk to a real "panner" Scott!
Kudos!
