A7RIVa is the best value high resolution camera on market. Significant cheaper than A7RV, has the same sensor, AF is decent just use GM lenses for demanding work, subject recognition doesn't have latest AI assistant but quite good. Actually I prefer the minimalism of the tilt only screen, dedicated ev dial, and battery life is better, bit smaller and lighter body. I only miss the more advanced ibis from A7RV. Size is between A7RV and A7CR, but more photography dedicated tool than CR: tilting high resolution screen, far better EVF, joystick, and full mechanical shutter.
I can't argue if someone prefer A7CR, or A7RV easily worth over RM4a, but personally this camera is the more than good enough for my needs.
For faster raw playback for raw shooters I suggest use raw+small jpeg instead of raw only. And definitely check if you want to buy the updated "a" version with better screens.
The real reason I still shoot with the A7RIV is the high resolution. I’ve shifted toward using more manual and compact AF lenses, and the RIV’s autofocus is still more than fast enough for the way I shoot. I’m not photographing people playing hide‑and‑seek behind light poles and trees, so the eye‑AF is more than sufficient for my needs and I am not a huge fan of AI in everything, so I don't see myself upgrading to A7RV or the next version anytime soon.
That said, I haven’t used it much since picking up the Zf, so selling it has crossed my mind. But I really do like the camera. Mine is only around 22K shutter actuations, and with a rated life of 500K, it’s barely broken in.

And what do you like or use about it compared to R5 or what might come.
If this is what you worry about then take a look at the A7rVI soon to be introduced. I think rumor says May 134th.
Personally I think a good rule of thumb is to stick as long as possible with the camera one has. 5 years minimum. I upgraded from A7rIII to V for to have a better autofocusing all-round camera. What I really wanted was A1 but A7rV is what I have had for 2 years now
Image quality? To be honest I do not rally see a difference but A7rV has better IS and feels nicer in hand.
BTW I recent picked up Nikon D700 with 35/1.4 lens. Feels ancient but the images look very pleasing. Nice colors when converted in C1. There is also a certain charm in using DSLR.
I have the A7r III and am considering a used R IV or A7CR to get higher resolution and the 1:1 aspect ratio. I’m working on a square project and like seeing the frame when I compose. All the other improvements will be a bonus.
Thank you all for the input I just rarely see the r4 discussed good to hear still love for it. I do appreciate what it is and what it does for as long as I have had it.
I usually skip generations so the R4 should go to R6 but I picked up a A1 and a 7cII so the R4 is relegated to Landscape and special work. If the R6 is everything they say I may sell it and the R1 and get it. Or wait till next year and see what nifty stuff comes out then.
