In Lightroom Classic, Im noticing in the Lens Correction window that for most of my lenses it shows Built-in Lens Profile applied automatically, even before I check the Enable Profile Corrections box.
My questions are as follows:
1. What exactly is the difference between the built-in profile thats already being applied vs. what happens when I manually click the Enable Profile Corrections box?
2. In what situations should I leave it off vs turn it on?
3. Are there cases where the manual profile adds corrections that the built-in one doesnt?
Would appreciate if someone might be able to offer a more technical breakdown of how Lightroom is handling these two layers of correction and best practices for when to use each.
There is for instance a slight difference in the new lens LRc lens profile for the Viltrox 14mm 4.0 Air Nikon Z. It corrects some barrel distortion, I was not aware of.
Just try to turn it on and off, and check what result you like more.
Also check whether it does cut part of your image off. Unconstrained in C1 and PL. Scale in LRc.
It all depends on your lens and sample variation and quality of the specific lens profile.
DXO PL is heavily into lens profiles. They are excellent as long as your camera/lens combination is supported.
