I’ve been using these features in ACR rather than LR, but they are essentially the same thing.
The basic masking features themselves have become quite powerful. But the ability to combine (via intersecting, adding, subtracting) lets us do all kinds of crazy stuff with them that can be extremely powerful.
Perhaps one of the most helpful videos for LR that I have watched, definitely picked up some excellent tips to put to use! Thanks for sharing this and special thanks to Steve Perry

I enthusiastically second Karl's comment! I have been a subscriber to Steve's site, "Back Country Gallery", for some time and have gleaned a ton of very useful information from it. More to the subject, his masking tutorial is should be a MUST for anyone wanting to utilize the full capability of this LR feature.
