p.1 #1 · EF chip that works with the Canon EF to R adapter

Hi,

I have a Minolta MC 58 f/1.2 that I have adapted to a Canon EF mount with a Leitax adapter. I bought a dandelion chip that I hoped would let me use the lens with focus aids on my Canon R5 II with the Canon EF to R adapter. Unfortunately, the camera and adapter wouldn't recognize the chip and when I tried to shoot just reported a communication error.

Anyone have any luck with a chip I can add to the mount and use with the adapter to get focus aids? Any experience or help would be much appreciated.

Did you buy it from ebay? There is a seller andreykuryanov from Ukraine in ebay that comes with searching "dandelion canon rf chip" in ebay? Per his posting, some of the chips are compatible with rf mount... I checked it several years ago, but I have not tried it...

That is who I bought it from. He seemed legit and it was not overly expensive, but it didn't work.

I think what I am going to do is just get an EF to Leica M adapter and use the Shoten Leica M to Canon RF electronic adapter with my Minolta MD 58 f/1.2. It is a double adapter solution so not ideal, but won't be a big deal with this particular lens and will definitely allow me to have focus aids and allow the camera to know the focal length of the lens for IBIS and I will get EXIF data for the lens as well.

If I had it do over again, then I would have just got a Minolta MD to Leica M adapter and used the Shoten adapter to get focus aids, the correct focal length for IBIS, and EXIF data, but now that I have the lens converted to EF mount I think I will just go with an EF to Leica M adapter as they are more plentiful and inexpensive.

Hey Steve,

don't worry. Just use an EOS (D)SLR to program the chip for the first time. It should work afterwards. I am using a couple of AF confirm chips successfully with my R6II and everything works fine, except for programming (which is tricky with the R6II). But programming works like a charm with the 6D, e.g.

Cheers,
Sten

I thought I had ordered the chip pre-programmed but I suppose it was not. I unfortunately wrecked the chip when I removed it to allow the lens to work. For now I will use it with a EF to Leica M adapter and the Shoten Leica M to RF adapter. I might at some point, get another chip, however, and this time I will know that I will have to borrow a DSLR to program it.
