As a bird photographer and not into video the only feature I would be excited to have is the ability to assign pre-capture on/off toggle to a custom button. That is a long time coming.

They really are flirting with disaster here.
From the link: "This is a strange one as it has appeared and disappeared on multiple sites."
First, if a download appears then disappears...that's not usually a good sign. It could be because early adopters installed it and then it bricked their cameras. Not saying that happened, just saying that is one of the leading reasons a company quickly pulls a software update.
Second, there's a long held IT adage that you do not really a major update on a Friday, since tech support over the weekend is greatly reduced, should anything go wrong. It's just not a good business practice.
I believe that the reason could be a mistake in the release date. Canon has some new releases scheduled for the 13th of May and might have an inadvertent early release of the firmware and are recalling it, as oppoised to there being bugs in the firmware.

Assuming this list is legit, then this is a significant set of improvements for a firmware update from Canon, even if the majority of features are video-centric or specialized.
Being able to map pre-capture to a button and to save/load settings to a card are welcome improvements for stills shooters, IMO.
And its interesting that Canon still seems to be behind DPRAW capture. Kind of odd to be adding this after the fact.

I'm not seeing any reason to update since I don't capture humans or videos or use RF coms.
The main question is always if there are any issues with importing camera settings from card after FW update. I'll probably have to test it in July.

Anything's possible. Canon has had a history of spotty firmware updates though with the R5mk2 (1.0.1--or was it 1.0.2--introduced issues that degraded performance). I get it, these firmware for the R1/R5mk2 are now 250MB vs the older generation which was around 50MB, so a lot more bugs can enter the code.
As someone who shoots 60/40 photo/video, and who uses pre-capture when shooting wildlife, there's a lot that appeals to me in that firmware. I'll wait the standard one week from its real release (there's a lot of Day 1 Updaters out there) and monitor the forums to see if it's relatively bug-free. If so, I'll update one of my cameras and see how it does before upgrading the other one.

I'm wondering if #1 means better servo AF tracking in video for people in general. Hopefully this is the case. Otherwise, 6, 9, and 10 will be welcome for me:

I assume you already use back button AF. You don't find the half press shutter method to activate pre capture useful for you for birding or other wildlife? I'm about to go on a safari this week, but haven't used the pre capture function yet.

Keep in mind that pre-capture burns buffer time (because it's the same thing). If you need buffer for after you press the shutter, you might want to be cautious with how much pre-capture you enable.

Good to hear! Stuck at work and don't really have anything requiring the R5ii until this weekend (going to take it along with hopefully a new Q3M I'm likely to pick up on Saturday) so I may just wait another 1-2 days just to see if the broader community finds something amiss. I'm hopeful they learned from their 1.0.1/2 situation and extensively tested this before release.
