First time seeing these sweet mallard babies . Filled me with joy . Lots of fun to watch the little ones explore the world. Mom was keeping an eye on all of them . I thought the males Mallards were helping to raise them. Well, after some research, have learned not so. They abandon the female . After the eggs hatch , she comes out from hiding . The males then start following them around for food and to try and breed again.
The first day I saw them, there were 10 babies. The next day there were only 8. Tough living on a lake with osprey, eagles, turtles and bass.
