In some 45 years of playing with cameras, this is as close to a Henri Cartier-Bresson moment as I've ever had. Just happened into this event a day earlier during setup and the organizers suggested we come back for the main event.
While traversing the beach, I caught this family running along the waters edge with their kite low overhead. Without thinking, I popped the camera to my eye and squeezed off a single shot. This is totally out of character for me.

Something that the kids here do not do anymore. I didn't even see any for sale at Walmart this season.
Each year when were kids, we would go and get our kite kits, put them together, and go fly our kites.
Thanks for the memory,
Douglas

The following is just a smattering of the kites flying in the non-competition zone, many being flown by retired adult 'children.' I've been to all sorts of events, and these kite flyers were just some of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. Eager to share their interest in the hobby, answer any questions, and share their joy. One gent brought multiple giant ocotopus kits (each about 30' long), keeping one close to the ground (in lower right, near the spiky wheels) as he enjoyed seeing the young kids play in the fluttering tentacles.

Very nice. A great use of IR.
Thank you.
Took a few in color, with my X-T5, and they are about as exciting as an old soap dish. Despite the great subjects, the images lack spark and focus. Can't quite put a finger on why, but my best B&W work is an order of magnitude better than my best color work. Probably best not to overthink.
