Minor comment, I think the image would benefit from a slightly wider crop giving more context of the surrounding wall. My personal feeling is that you aren't giving enough sense of this being in an alley.
My other comment, I would love to see this photographed at night. I bet it has a whole other vibe which would be kind of cool.

Cropping is a "science" imho!
Normally, to enhance its narrative by eliminating distractions, correcting compositional flaws, and directing the viewer's focus to the desired area.
Not knowing what was on either side of the door or what your intention was Tom, I like it because of the unique sinage and all the paraphanallia(?)on the glass and the "autographs" on it!
