p.1 #1 · Anyone go from X100F to A7C or vice versa?

I have the X100F and have been thinking about the A7C to replace it. I also have a Canon R5. I keep reading how bad the viewfinder is on the A7C and it's awkward to hold and adding any lens to it just makes it even larger than the X100F. I know someone is going to suggest the used A7CII but the prices on them are up with a used A7RIV. At that price other than size the A7RIV is much more camera in my opinion. So if anyone used both I would appreciate your input.

The a7C can be as big or small as you want depending on what lens you use. It has a far more pronounced grip than any of the X100 cameras. So even holding the a7C with a large prime is fine. The 24mm f/1.4 on my a7C II certainly isn't "small", but it is very comfortable to hold. With a 40mm f/2.5 or similar pancake lens, the a7C becomes very compact. Any X100* will be slightly slimmer in height and depth. But you're not putting either one in your pants pocket (unless you wear cargo pants).

In the end it become harder to compare those two cameras because the X100 is always a fixed lens. With the Samyang 35mm f/2.8 AF attached, the a7C is only slightly bigger and heavier than the X100. But you could put a 600mm f/4 on it you wanted to. That's never an option for the Fuji.

I gave up on the X100 line because they weren't weather sealed until the V and VI and the 35mm equivalent focal length isn't my favorite. The X100F was an improvement over the T. Operationally it was much quicker. The bigger battery and better sensor were welcome updates.

There is still artificial price inflation on the old X100* cameras. Used ones are selling for more than I bought a new one for 9 years ago. That really makes no sense.

I have similar cameras to the ones you mentioned. I have both the Fuji X100VI and not the A7C but the similar in form A6700. I heard great things about the A7C series especially paired with smaller lenses like the Sony 40/2.5G which I really love. Another option for you is how about the interchangeable APS-C cameras from Fuji? If you are a big fan of Fuji film sims that is the route I would consider. I thought about it too but I have too many cameras already. Besides the X100VI is a keeper for me. I normally take that and the A6700 when I go on vacation.

Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Biggest difference for me would be a fixed lens versus interchangeable lens camera. Both can be small and light enough not to matter.

Not quite your example case, but I went from an Oly EM 5 mk3 (often with a 20mm 1.4) to an A7CR. With the 40mm 2.5 it is surprisingly similar in size and weight to the (equiv-ish) EM-5 config. Really enjoy being able to go from that to a 28-60 (also tiny) or the 20-70mm f4 (which is much larger but very very versatile). And I can go to something like the Tam 50-300mm if I'm traveling and want to do a bit of light birding. (The R version is like having a 15mpix m4/3rds camera with you when cropping, which I also made giving up the E-M5 easier.) The 7C version has a faster sensor and is cheaper, both of which are nice features.

If I'm going to shoot with a fixed lens I want something with a big advantage in size/weight (I still drag out my old RX100 every now and then - now that is a small and light camera! : ) So I've never gotten an X100 as it seems too big for what it is, but obviously that not a universal feeling : )
