Now that I’ve had the chance to use this little gem for a few initial shots, I felt it deserved its own dedicated image thread.
Sony has really created a delightful lens in a compact package. I find the image quality impressive. Sometimes I do think, "Hmm, 70mm would be nice right about now," but that thought vanishes quickly when I consider the weight and size of 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses. It really fits the Sony A7V like a glove.
Perhaps a nice little collection of images taken with this lens will emerge here.
I own both the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II and the newer FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G and I agree that the reduced size and weight of the 24-50mm is a great find. I now use it on either my A7CR/A7CII or even my A7V bodies. The GM II is getting most of its use on either my A1 or A1 II where the extra weight is balanced with the battery grips I use on those bodies. Have to admit I was considering the FE 20-70mm f/4 but I don’t find the smaller zoom range an issue. Also bought its sister lens the FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G. Have tried that?

Interesting point! I was thinking about which lens I could add below the focal length range of the 24-50. Wanted to do some research soon. Maybe you saved me some time
I added the Sony 16-35 PZ f4.0 to my 24-50. It's light enough for the A7CR and gives me selectivity of how wide-angle I want to go, which I find useful. Although the focal range overlaps the 24-50 I like that there is 35mm available if I see a 'normal' subject and don't have time to change lenses before capturing it.
