Was on the hunt for a great lens to pair with my Zf. But i had another goal as well. I wanted two lenses. One i can use with the Zf that compliments it as a retro style body and also a lens that my kids or family member could use in a pinch if they wanted to try it out. Turns out I really needed two lenses.
I bought the following lenses to test and some of the results were quite interesting.
This is in no way scientific but i had fun doing it and my daughter had fun so i figured if it helps anyone on here then here ya go!
In the end i decided on the Nikon 50mm f1.8 S and the voigtlander 40mm f1.2 This way i had the best of both worlds. I was surprised at how the 50mm f1.4 held its own against the 1.8S. The voigtlander has a look all its own and the experience of shooting manual is what really sold me on it.
If the 50mm f1.2 wasnt so gosh darn big i would have probably just got that one and called it a day lol
voigtlander 40mm at 1.2. No comparison as this is the only lens thats this fast

Very nice images and interesting comparison. I think you will really enjoy both of those lenses as they serve different purposes. The CV 40mm f/1.2 produces very nice rendering images if you like MF. Going through a similar decision, I ended up with the Nikon 35mm f/1.4 and 50mm f/1.8 S, which I also think compliment each other well.

For me, what I love about these photos, is that I'd be happy with any of them. And it's only in seeing them side by side that I'd lean toward one lens over the others (it's the 50 1.4). But I own the 50 1.8 and the 40/2, and the improvement the 1.4 offers is so so slight... really it just seems to render warmer, and I could push my images that way in post (or a simple white balance nudge). At the end of the day, it just confirms to me that the Z line of lenses, even the cheap and convenient lenses, are surprisingly good. I've seen comments online slagging the 40/2 and it was puzzling to me because every time I shoot with it it puts a smile on my face. Ditto the 50 1.8, which I got to replace the Sigma ART 50. It's a great time to be shooting.
I own all 3 of those ..... I would of went with the 2 lenses you choose as well reason I own them. The 40/2 tho its a super light lens and it def holds it's own for what it is. I also like the F mount 58/1.4G along with the 50/1.2 AIS
There are so many choices ... you really cant go wrong.
