GREAT SHOT! But, I think you should resize it to meet the requirements of 640px on the longest dimension, or it won't be considered, and that would be too bad.

Thanks for the heads up Mary. It seems my host, smugmug automatically resizes some images but doesn't do it to others .... the new compliant image suffers from to much negative space ..... curses
The frosty look is created by the processing for this image which was to convert it to a high contrast black & white then over sharpened to emphasize the hairy parts. I pasted that b&w version back into the original then used the history brush to bring the colour back to the nose & chin.
So cool! Such a neat image and seamless photoshopping (in fact, I didn't even realize you'd photoshopped it until I read your message about the technique you used - also very cool). One of things I use this board for is doing critiques on images I really like (and I really like this one) so here goes: I notice 2 small slightly lighter splotches at the very top edge of the image, near the center, I think I would have cloned those out. I'm curious if you noticed them, and if so, why you chose to leave them in. Also, I'm curious about whether you played with other orientations/sizes for the image, obviously it could have been potrait orientation. But since it's so symetrical, perhaps square would well here. If you tried others, why'd you stick with landscape? Again it's a fantastic and very original entry!
thanks for the heads up on the blotches Andrew. I hadn't noticed them, I was preoccupied trying to find a resized format that smugmug, my host wouldn't alter from the required 640 px format. That's also the reason behind the landscape format, smugmug holds that 640 just fine.I usually don't care for that much negative space but here I hope it adds another abstraction to the image. The image was originally shot with a 10mm lens in the landscape mode to highten distortions. If you look at my avitar you'll see how I originally presented it, but smugmug refused to hold my 640.......curses!!

I use smugmug also. When you get the url for the pic remove the L and change to O this will allow you to post the original BTW I think this is the winner
