I thoroughly enjoy our weeks in New Mexico where we are 20 miles from the nearest cell phone signal.
We have no TV, no internet, sketchy radio signals.
Well Zane...You could invite all for a weekend please...
Looks beautiful, a lot like the areas I go up to almost every weekend not far from where I live.
My beef about no cell phone signal was really about navigation, not getting online to see stuff. A portable Garmin GPs would have solved the problem. I have been to parts of other countries that are much more remote and mountainous than Highway 101, the cell signal there was really good. I guess they built cell towers at very high elevations too? Next time if I travel to unknown places, I will bring the Garmin.
Mentioned previously, Apple Maps and Google Maps allow for downloading your selected areas to address this exact problem - when no network connectivity exists. They also support auto/manual refreshing or purging unused map data.
I use this feature in Taiwan but not for the lack of network connectivity but rather to save my international data consumption. Unlike in the US, like Douglas previously commented, Taiwan has connectivity everywhere - in buildings, tunnels, elevators. So ... cellular connectivity everywhere is possible.
Leg #1 DAL-DC is complete. This leg, 1:58 from Dallas Love Field to Dulles was a great opportunity to test out all of the compositions and exposure settings that I have been imagining in the middle of the night for weeks. I swear, something in my make up just won't let me rest when a challenge like this arises, I have to live it and re-live it 24-7 until I'm actually doing it for real.
Today I flew higher and faster than I have ever flown, 738 mph at FL410. Obviously not my first rodeo in a private jet, but the Gulfstream 650ER spoils you for every other platform, whisper quiet in first class (which is any seat in the cabin), captain's chairs that you literally sink into, and windows that are so big and optically perfect that the views are spectacular, all in all, not a bad ride. Today's leg included my crew and me, so I had the entire fuselage to myself to brainstorm my shots on future legs.
Thanks Jan Arie, unfortunately it is blocked. Sheila wanted to track us but couldn’t. Wish I could buy you lunch or dinner on this whirlwind. Not sure there are a lot of things to do in Bodo Norway in the brief time we’ll be there. Looks like it’s a jumping off point for adventures to the frozen north.

I've been to Bodø and Bardufoss and surrounding area in the wintertime as support with the Dutch Marines on winter training.
Beautiful country and good food.
Bodø is just north of the artic circle.
Douglas, It's great from a boat. An annual event for locals. I'm sure someone from Annapolis YC could help.

Thank you Joe and Jeff! One more week until the MCAS Cherry Point show. That's 700 miles of driving in one day! The Naval Academy campus in Annapolis will be closed to the general public during the Blue Angels show for security reason few weeks from now. I may still go to watch off campus since it's only 45 minutes drive from me. As a matter of fact, one of my all time favorite BA pictures I have taken was taken off the academy campus during COVID. I have never been able to see the BA stacked in this angle again. Luck may strike twice!...Show more →

Thank you for the suggestion. I will take a look at that option. Leaving the house at 2:00 AM tomorrow morning to head down to Cherry Point, hopefully will be at the gate before 8:00. it's a 370 mile drive, one way!
Graduating and moving on to Texas McCombs Bidness school in the fall. UT has been the only college he’s ever wanted to attend since he was 4. Kid made it happen. I wish I had his focus and perseverance. Of course he had to have senior photos with the longhorns.
We just flew back into satellite communication, for the past three hours we have been in pretty isolated territory. There is no way that I could have anticipated the profound impact that this adventure would have on me, it has been an incredible experience. What we have witnessed, the bonds that have been strengthened and the new ones that have been forged, it has been amazing. A few hours ago as we traversed, literally, the top of the world, we read Scripture. Seated next to me right now is the Director of The Smithsonian Air & Space Museum .
