Broken dreams and dashed hopes... How sad is it that you don't even need to go to the courthouse steps anymore, you can simply bid online. C&C welcome.
I was thinking the same exact thing before I even saw hanamj's response. My only nit, which is very minor, is that the selective blur on the 1 in the address is bothersome. Maybe it's just me, though. Good take on the assignment.
One thing... i know, it's down to taste, but i personally find the unnatural blurring around the edges distracting. Especially where it blurs an object like the 1 in the address or the lamp, but just in general it seems fake and unnecessary to me.
Great idea and you have delivered a very convincing photo. I do like the blurring on the edges, which to me gives it a dream/nightmarish character that I find very fitting.
This is a great image. Aside from composition aspects, you know there is a sad but very common story behind it. Many people, either directly or indirectly, can relate or identify with the image. You've got my vote this week, great work!
I would like to thank everyone for their comments, I appreciate them. I do have to agree with with several of those who commented about the blur being distracting, I had not realized how distracting it really was so I revised the image some with a less distracting blur and vignette. I did leave the blur/vignette part of the picture for two reasons the first reason being that I needed some way to disguise the web address that was on the auction sign as I feel that it is completely unnecessary and better off being more abstract. The second reason for leaving it is exactly as Steve Spencer stated, that IMO it adds to the nightmare character of the image.
On a personal note, speaking of character please don't judge mine based on my entries here on FM, I am not really a depressing person it is just that the images that I have submitted are the first thing that came to mind when I read the assignments. Since three of the four entries I have submitted so far (MA57, WA329,328,&327) have been on the depressing side of things, hopefully next weeks assignment will be on a happier note.
Thanks again for the comments and as always C&C welcome.
