Thats the way it was. The darkness on the branch was from the shadow of a tree next to where the owl was. I decided to leave it as seen.

Both Klaus and my efforts were taken before the sun had set, that is why the illumination in not strictly moonlight. I cannot speak for Klaus, but for me I have captured the moon after dark with some success, I was pushing for clarity in the moon while it was availble in daylight (ie a rising moon before sunset) as a means of pushing my own photographic technique/skill. I like Klaus' effort better than mine for the great composition. I called mine Moon-Lite as a play on words regarding diet products and for the lack of darkness....mike
