I very nearly pre-ordered this one, but managed to keep my eye on the prize, that being my long-term goal to acquire a 500/4E. Yes, the 500/5.6 PF is compact and light in weight, but the 500/4E is quite light in weight, for a 500/4 lens.
I will admit that seeing such beautiful real-world images has me wondering whether I made a best decision.
For reference, regarding the advantage of f/4, I have a most wonderful Nikkor 500/4P lens, but the only BIFs I would reasonably hope to capture, with manual-focus, might be soaring vultures, or the White Pelicans who visit us in the winter.
It will be interesting the see what those who have both lenses, say about resolution.
You may be right and I may do the same. I pre-ordered. So, when it comes, I will have up to 30 days to decide. But I've not owned the 500E.
Arbitrage has/does and I believe he pre-ordered the 500 5.6. But he did say something about selling off some of his stuff to pay for the 500 PF.
