I think if I owned a 500mm f/4G or 500mm f/4FLE, I too would have absolutely no interest in the lens. It is a lot of money for a redundant optic, especially if you also own a 200-500VR. Rather than this PF, the 300mmPF would be the perfect partner for a 500mm f4. So, in my mind, it makes a lot of sense that you are not as excited about the 500PF as others are.

I have 500/4e FL and initially, I decided that I would not bother with 500 PF at all. However, as much as I like 500/4e FL and would try to use it as much as possible, there are time when I really could use 500mm but there is no way that I could bring 500/e4 FL. I often go scuba diving where there are a lot of seabirds and other animals above water. However, with about 40kg of dive gear, underwater camera set up, there is really no more room for another big lens unfortunately. Even 200-500 is a bit too big and inconvenient to take. Beside, I don't like 200-500 very much. So 500PF seems to meet my need exactly. After saying that, when Nikon release 600PF, I probably woudl see 500PF and go for 600PF though unless 600PF turns out to be a 3kg lens or something like that.
When I go for my next safari trip, it definitely will be my 500/4e FL. The one extra stop definitely is helpful with early morning and twilight period for sure.

PS, I tested my 500PF with lensalign yesterday and it was spot on and did not need and fine tune.
Surprising, with TC14e, there was also no need for fine tune. Generally with my TC14e, I need quite a bit of fine tune on all my lenses including 500/4e FL. However, it was raining all day yesterday so I had to check it in door a distance of about 5-6m, will need to check it at longer distance as well.

PSS if my picture is not sharp enough, definitely it is never the lens' false. I am one of those with more GAS than skill unfortunately
