These are in Ladakh's share of the Indus Valley. Had the Ladakhi army succeeded in its alliance with Bhutan in the 17th century, Tibet would be a very different and much better country today. Few know Ladakh controlled much of West Tibet through a lot of the late medieval period. The power hungry fifth Dalai Lama used the Mongols to try to overpower Bhutan - in five wars. They failed in all of them.
