Freckles!

I absolutely love when I get to take portraits of someone with a freckled face. This is someone whom I scouted from a social app a few weeks ago. He had never been photographed before but was very enthusiastic about the idea as soon as I asked him. It was a little difficult to break through his nerves during the shoot though.

I used an original Canon 5D with a Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM lens attached. Lighting for the high-key shots was a two-light setup. A beauty dish for the main light (some with a reflector added beneath his face for fill), and behind him a very large octa-box aimed directly at the camera creating a white background and light that wrapped around the subject. For the low key shot I just used a single beauty dish.

Before anyone complains about the feminine posing, he is a feminine being by nature (as am I), and I wanted to embrace that. I'm speaking mostly of the side shoulder pose. Also before anyone comments, I DO NOT remove tattoos in post unless at the request of the subject, client, or agent. I don't know why he has a scorpion tattoo but I wanted it visible as it's something personal to him and these portraits are meant to be personal for him.
