South Africa, unlike Kenya or Tanzania doesn't have vast open plans and tends to have a lot of thorny trees a thick bush everywhere. I didn't have a 600mm prime this time around but I still shot this leopard a few day ago at 600mm. Overall I would say I am 70/30 on not having a dedicated 600mm vs having a zoom lens or TC added to a shorter focal length to get you to 600mm.
