Do you have pics of the turreted houses? Many of the original summer homes in the Heights were built without kitchens. Back when Brooklyn was the capitol of American morality (Henry Ward Beecher, Brooklyn Eagle, etc), the Heights were the summer retreat of wealthy Brooklyn Methodists. There was only a communal kitchen. The turrets were added to the houses when they all gave up on communal dining. Most of the homes are still in the same families.


I have a few more pictures of the houses on the Heights, i have to check my archives.














Very interesting information about Henry Ward Beecher, his father and of course his connection with the Hamptons and Shelter Island, thank you for mentioning it, I am doing some Google search about it and I found if fascinating. I love Shelter Island and I spend 2/3 weeks every year over there with my wife.
