Auto subject detect

AF area mode: Wide-L
AF-S Priority Selection: Focus
In the course of a day's shooting, I occasionally experienced the shutter not tripping. After repeated attempts, shifting camera position slightly, camera would finally fire. Later reviewing images in camera, I notice the AF switched to Single Point ( not something I knowingly did) aboiut the time I had the probe noted. This happend 3 or four times thoughout the day, randomly. Pouring over the manual, so far I can find nothing that explains this behavior.
Ideas?
