Battle of the 40mm lenses for Nikon

Long promised and finally here, my loaners of the Septon 40 and Nokton 40 have arrived and I have 30 days to compile samples in this 5 way shootout.

We are comparing the following lenses:

Voigtlander 40/2 Septon for Z
Voigtlander 40/1.2 Nokton for Z
Voigtlander 40/2 Ultron for F
TTArtisan 40/2 for Z
Nikon 40/2 for Z

All test shots will be taken using the Z9, set to aperture priority, auto ISO, and EV -0.3, and all shots will be displayed using the RAW output from the camera using the LR Adobe Color profile with lens corrections DISABLED as to show distortion and vignette accurately. All shots are taken with hoods OFF to illustrate relative flare control compared to the others in a "naked" state.

I will likely take my time updating this thread, and each update post will have an A/B/C/D/E style comparison with the same subject, the camera mounted to a tripod, and as close to homogenous natural light as the late Texas spring/rainy season affords me. All shots will always be presented in the above order and linked in full 45mp resolution for your close inspection.

It can be very helpful to open the photos in a new tab (right click a photo to find the option) so that you can quickly flick between them to see the differences.

Arranged by size:
