Re: New 50mm summilux Classic. Who has it and your thoughts. I just picked one up
Thank you for sharing. I agree. If I was put in a situation with the choice of this classic (the hood is a little over the top if I’m being honest) vs the Lux Pre-ASPH V3 with its current asking price, I’d learn towards the latter. Just personal preference as well.
Ultimately I enjoy details, probably my OCD, so I went with the close focus ability of the 50 lux knowing that I had had spent years looking at others pictures with lenses of all types. It turned out to be more daunting than I expected. But the attached hood and the way it operates and the focus tab create a mechanical connection that allows the camera to work with me better and I seem to produce photos that I’m happier about afterwards with less editing. Win win.
All that said, I’m happier than a pig in…with my 50 lux. I made the best decision for myself. It’s the most satisfying lens I have bought because of the results it produces and how it handles. Followed by looks. It looks incredible. We all care a bit about this part as well.

That black on black is a very good looking combo. Do you find yourself shooting w/o the hood attached? I was close to choosing this over the current 50 Lux CF. How do you feel about those two lenses? If I remember right, you own both now. And seem to be impressed by both as well.
I owned both the CF version and the Classic Re-Issue. They are very, very similar.
I ultimately sold the Re-Issue. It is a beautiful lens, but in my opinion, the rendering is too similar to justify owning both unless you specifically want a different aesthetic, such as the black-paint finish and classic styling.
If you want something with a more distinctive vintage rendering that feels noticeably different from the Lux ASPH or the Re-Issue, I think the Lux Pre-ASPH V3 is the better buy.
I also found the hood design on the Re-Issue to be less user-friendly than I would have liked.
I believe there is a link above to some comparison shots I took with both lenses. The differences are subtle, and either way, it is a beautiful lens
