Funny thing- when people realize that the subject, surroundings and reality of the scene are what I'm after most of the time... the frequent harshness of the light often become more understandable, if not really acceptable . I feel the same... que será, será.
As I've often said- I'm not so much a photographer as I am a traveler with a camera.
Smiling boys, yes. This was as far away- geographically, culturally and socially- from Moscow as I got, and signs of happiness were noticeable- especially among the young- the further away I got.
The Uzbekis were never Soviets- they were just under Soviet political influence for awhile.
Being in central Asia and along important trade routes, it wasn't the first time outsiders took charge of them. I hope it will be the last, however.
