These past few months have been the busiest of my life. I'm married with three young boys (8, 5, 2), work as a high school administrator, am the associate photographer for Hoffer Photography, I mow lawns for 30 hours a week, and coach three baseball teams (one of which hasnt technically started yet).
All of this will slow down a bit after our graduation next week (I'll be off for the summer, grass will stop growing and I can cut during the week, and two of my teams seasons are over), but it's been pretty damn busy to say the least!
My middle son (5) typically plays Tball (4, 5, 6 year olds). He had a pretty good season and shows some promise to play in the next division next year. I wanted to get him some experience playing with the 'big boys' (7 and 8). So I brought him up to play. I batted him last and he played the outfield. He was fairly nervous and was by far the smallest boy on the field. He was on deck taking practice swings and I was coaching third base when my oldest son came out and started to talk to him. I have no clue what they said, but I reached for my iPhone, pointed it and snapped the photo below.
I think it might be my favorite photo I've ever taken.
Chuck you have a busy life much like many of us who juggle our careers, families, and photography. One had to give for me so I reduced the phtography as I love spending time with my kids, and they each are playing soccer and I am involved upto my eyes with each of there teams. A good majority of my images are taken with the iPhone. It's great in a pinch. At the end of each year i create a blurb family photo album with the best images of the year. I dedicate a whole section 6 or 7 pages just to IPHONE/Instagram images. Oh by the way great image. I always love your photo journalistic style family images. This is no exception. They always tell a story.
I'm jealous Chuck. I've been following your threads where you speak of capturing moments and emotions and have been trying the same with my daughter. Even with my best gear, I've yet to capture anything this strong.
In good light and with your great processing an iPhone can be a great tool. Please don't dump your camera for it but you are entirely right. I would even go as far as saying the best camera is the one you have handy. I see too many people (and find myself doing it on occasion) changing lenses or reaching for a different body when the shot is right there only to get the perfect setup but miss the moment
