Has anyone here sold their 85mm because they don't need both the 58mm and 85mm? I'm on the fence about selling my 85mm 1.4..love the lens, but I'm using a lot less now after getting the 58mm.

haha.. you should get one already. Wait.. why are you selling your Df? It seems we're going the opposite direction. Sold my D4 and now going with Df, but regardless, change is good.

I just did. 85 1.4G is nice, but I've always had an issue with this focal length and it goes back from the 85 1.4D days. It seems like I always have to remember to step back a little when composing. The 58 is perfect, because I can frame exactly as my eyes see, and of course the rendering. The 58 kind of makes the 85 redundant, so I sold it and now I'll be waiting for an updated 105/2 or 135/2. 58 and 135 would be a killer one-two punch!

I sold my 85mm as well. I just never liked the 85mm focal length. Had the Sigma 85mm and then sold it. Later picked up the 1.8g and then sold that. 58mm is just much better for me as well. Amazing the number of times I just walk in front of the subject, raise the camera and it is already framed exactly the way I want it. I'm like Dontshoot in that I found I always looked through the camera with an 85mm and found I was too close and had to step back.

I had a moment...
The AF of the DF kills me. It WILL turn you into a chimper. I wanted the D4 originally, but settled on the DF. I fell in love aside from the AF. I got pissed with the AF; I was all ready to sell it until I went to take pictures of it. I can't get rid of it; it is entirely too sexy, convenient, easy to use, and light to sell it.
I'm going to shuffle my stuff here shortly. Sell my Sig 35, 85/1.8, and maybe 60/2.8G and buy the 58. Then I'll have to scrape my pennies to get the 28/1.8G. I sold the 28 when I got the 35, but I really miss the 28 and the rendering. The 35 has become clinical to me. Same reason I hate the 85/1.8, way too clinical.
