I thought it would be fun to compare the starburst of different lenses. While the lens by itself can't take all the credit, it's a big part of the starburst, and along with flare resistance it makes for a great effect.
My favorite is 16-35mm II, I like the effect from 24mm II as well, and I wish the 8-15mm fisheye had a more pronounced length to the starburst (and I am very happy with its flare resistance).
17-40mm I find very unforgiving with direct sunlight.
70-200mm II does way better with flare resistance than first version. Starburst itself, maybe same (not much of starburst, unless it's a quite small gap for the sun).
All of these are possible due to Live View, otherwise it's not safe to look through directly...
Thanks Eric, I always wanted to see some kind of a comparison like this, so after a few years of trials and successes I wanted to share...
Starburst big or small can make a good image better
Thank you, thank you I am glad you all enjoy.
Except for the 35mm and shorter focal lengths, where you don't need a sun obstruction, you want to block the sun in some way partially, like with a 200mm focal length and palm trees offering the small openings..
You can do that shot in Florida, Jay, with Palm trees (in the first/last hour of the day)
For a more complete set, these are with 50mm f/1.4 at f/16 (both)
