Impressive shot. The Milky Way looks very clean and detailed. It looks like you blended a tracked background with a long exposure foreground. It worked very nicely. Congrats!

I really appreciate the comments guys! I think this one just may be my favorite night image as of yet. I can't wait to spend the next few new-moons out under the stars shooting. Up next is Crater Lake and Central Oregon all weekend. Time to play with my new 24mm TS-E II as well. Thanks again!
Really fantastic looking image! I just met that tree on Saturday, and it has great potential for sunset as well. Did you blend the milky way from a different lens? It looks like it's between 24 and 35mm Milky Way.

Tim, what a great spot it is. But I used the same lens, time, location, etc. If anything I actually thought it was opposite as I thought it looked wider than 21. Maybe it's the perspective from "leaning back"?? I'd have to double check but I don't think I changed the perspective, etc, during processing. Appreciate the comment!
The shot is astronomical literately. I've been trying to photograph this tree for a while but can't find it, or don't know its location. Do you mind sharing the location of it? I normally just go for one or two days (weekend) and this would make my trip so much "faster". Or, if there's a name this tree has that'd helpful too.

I'm not sure of the name but this tree is actually really easy to find. I initially missed it on my first trip to this area last fall since I mostly explored Patriarch Grove so I made a point to finally track it down this time. You just head to Schulman Grove (end of the paved road that has the visitor center) and it's along the rocky north slope of the Discovery Trail. I started the trial that began maybe a 50 yards West of the visitor center and it's no more than a 15 minute walk up the hill. Super easy. Enjoy your trip, it's an awesome spot up there!!

Just saw this question...you don't need any type of permit as the trails are wide open at night. I've shot multiple nights up here and I'm yet to even run across another person.

Thank you! I was there a couple of year ago and the visitor center was closed (I think they were fixing the place) and the whole access to it was also closed. I took a few shots but trees in front of it, right next to the road so nothing special. I'll be there in two or three weeks. This is only 4 hours drive for me. I should've been there 10 times already But, sometimes you gotta get inspired and your shot did just that.
