I was super happy to find this small colony of tricolored herons that nested in New Jersey this year. After watching 15 tricolors circle around and settle down into the treetops, I photographed several of them while they posed and preened nicely for the next half hour as the sun rose from the horizon. Of course, my shutter sounded like a machine gun for the whole time. Here's a few of those shots.
