Oh yes I didn't say it was fun. It's very unpleasant, and puts me off buying lenses at home. Frankly, Id rather pay fifty bucks to send it back to Adorama than fight with these guys. (I had an FE 90 that I had to fight for a replacement with Digidirect who wanted to send it to Sony). But they do buckle, because the law is on your side.
It's interesting that you mention Digidirect. They were formerly one of the few retailers that had a generous returns policy (at least for web purchases) however I note that they have recently rescinded the policy and now adhere firmly to the minimum obligations under the ACL in handling returns.
I agree that the ACL is on your side in the case of a bad lens sample, the problem is getting the retailer to agree that a copy of a lens such as those seen in this thread would be a major fault. I suspect if tested in court, a judge would agree that no reasonable person would buy a lens if they knew it was a bad copy with smeared corners before purchase (and would thus be a major fault) but conveying that to the idiot manning the counter in these stores is often challenging.
I've often considered buying from B&H/Adorama although with the dollar where it is presently it is sadly often cheaper to buy locally, particularly if you risk a GST charge for a more expensive lens.
(Cropped out the bottom 2/3 since there is nothing informative. Plenty of uncorrectled convergence since the camera was pointed sharply downward to align the top of the buildings with the top of the image. I also flipped the camera over and made the same shot with the bottom of the frame with the same result.)

^ nothing to be concerned with there. Looks like a good copy to me, and it seems to perform well on the A7 with the Kolari V2 mod. The pictures have a nice look to them.

^How do you like that Techart adapter? I have a few M-mount lenses and have been thinking about it.
Well, I like it a lot.
However, it's work in progress, has operational glitches, and no doubt will get improved over time.
To use the adapter well one has to configure the camera, in my case the A7r2, appropriately.
One can find bits and pieces how to do that here and there.
Lighter lenses, wide open work best. Heavier lenses not so well, too heavy not at all.
Normal and WA lenses just work in good light.
Short tele lenses may require some manual pre-focusing, then final focus with AF.
Having tested a bunch of lenses, these are my favorites:
Leica WATE, CV 15/4.5 III, Minolta 24-35/3.5 with additional adapter, Leica AA 75/2, TE 90/2.8, Summicron 50/2.
The Leica Elmarit-M 90/2.8 and TE 135/4 work with manual pre-focusing but are on the heavy side.
35, 28, 24, and 21 mm lenses will work as well but most have known corner issues.
All my Leica R lenses seem too heavy and would require manual pre-focusing so that the adapter could focus in the reach it has.

For jpegs only not the Raw but we maybe seeing some raw cooking going on since it can communicate. But we still don't know that yet.
Wow you got Choppy fast. Enjoy her, I'm ordering next week and the odds don't look good at all on the E version.
Many thanks Guy indeed. That was very fast!
Typically the mail person just drops a notification card in our mail box and I have to go to the post office the next day to pick up the package.
But, lucky me, they actually delivered the package this time.
Yup, I was thinking of the in-camera raw cooking that could make a difference for shooting videos.
I am thinking of ordering another E-mount version as well - but have my doubts how many lenses it will take before I get a good one.
There is no doubt however in my mind that I will enjoy Choppy a lot. Thanks again Guy.

Hi K-H,
Do you still have an A7r to test to see if the AF converter works on the camera?
Thanks.
Rich
Thanks Rich. Yup I still have the A7r.
I put the adapter with the 15/4.5 III on it and got some images.
But the adapter doesn't work well at all on A7r.
Not really a useable system that way.
There are still quite a few glitches on the A7r2, but for me worth using.

Thanks Guy for the offer. I'll wait until I got my money back for my current E-mount version.
I also want to see whether the odds of getting a good one are improving.

So between work, family, and crappy weather I hadn't really been able to test mine the way others have on this thread. So the rain finally stopped (for now) and I was able to get out and shoot some test shots. I gave my RAWs to Fred and he graciously ran them through his workflow to be consistent with what he had posted on here earlier in the thread. I basically did the crosswise horizon test in both directions, and the corners are posted below. These were taken with an a7R II, compressed RAW at f/5.6 and f/8.
This gives you an idea of the framing...
So it seems as though I may be one of the lucky few. I'm looking forward to some real shooting...possibly this weekend. But there are good copies out there, I hope Cosina ups its game in terms of manufacturing, assembly, and QC.

Hi K-H,
Thanks for running the test. Unfortuantely, an A7rII does not appear to be in my future this year. But, I was able to pick up a previously owned stock A7r. I have to sell my Fujjiflim XE-1 system to help to pay for the camera. But, now I will have my A7rM V3 and my A7r stock camera to work with my M-mount lenses on the A7rM V3 and my R lenses to work on both cameras as well as my Canon FD 500mm f4.5 on both cameras.

Thanks Rich. I understand. BTW, how do you like the A7rM V3? TIA.

Hi K-H,
For my limited usage I am enjoying my A7rM V3. I was able to prepare my color profiles with my X-Rite Color Checker and Software. I may run some additional checks on these. I belive my cloudy profile is not quite in line with my shade profile. But, I have been able to get some usable results that I have been tweaking as I had previously in LR.
