Interestingly, I haven't seen one question/report regarding quality variation on this lens. Probabaly a good sign. Bob, it is now over 24 hours, and still no PM. You have established that you are un-Guy, so now let's get down to business, please!

Sorry my friend. I'll just have to entice you further with some wide open goodness . . .
Size wise it's about the same as the FE85 in length (without hood) and width but it is heavier (in a good way). Optically, the Voigtlander is better overall IMO.
I just received my copy (honestly it just found its way into my shopping cart ... no idea how ) but I have the same problem ... it only stays in focus mag (low or high) for a second or few.
I have a 2nd A7R2 body so I checked it and it has exactly the same issue with the lens. Both bodies on V4 F/W.
Then tried it on an a6300 and it again does the same thing.
I rechecked one of my A7R2 bodies with a 21mm Loxia (the only other MF E mount lens I have that auto magnifies when the focus it turned) and it still works fine (ie stays in focus mag as it should).
I boxed it up ready to return.

I switched my exchange for a return as it got caught in the long holiday in October before it could be returned to B&H, and after they reopened I was away. I ordered a new one this week and it just showed up. It has none of the issues the 1st one did with it jumping out of mag view so I'll put it through it's paces tomorrow.
I have mine for sale folks. Only because i can buy this back when all the dust settles with the A7rIII stuff because i am getting it back ASAP. I know this is the one lens that does not have any copy variance in my kit. So no risk for me buying it back

Lol. My head is spinning. Too much buying and selling this week. But I’m on the right track. This sale is a temporary fix until the A7rIII is in my hands. I️ even rented a A7rII From a great member till the A7rIII comes . Someone buy this it’s a killer copy
NDE, I am not going to argue against the Sony 28 f:2.0, but comparing it with the Zony 55, CV 65 and GM 85 is comparing apples and oranges IMHO. Different market segments, and thus different lenses.
There was a word of 2 side effects of having this immaculate optics which would be: heavy and difficult to achieve focus.
Heavy is easy to know - it is objective .
Focus is subjective: is it really a problem to focus more than any other manual Zeiss/or MF lens for portraits, street, landscape, casual use? More difficult than the Zeiss 100/2?

I find the lens easy to focus as it is so sharp that when I use focus peeking, it lights up like crazy when I hit focus. I admit that small movements at infinity are necessary, but it is not hard to me and easy to know when you are on it. I was wandering around the neighborhood looking to take pics of fall leaves (such as they are) with my wife today. I took ONE pic of her with the CV 65. Here is it, wide open with a small crop off the top:

Well, I am not falling for this, however good it may be, weight is a concern, especially for a prime. Have vowed not to put any heavy stuff on my a7R3. So many great lenses, 35/1.4, 85GM, but not for me. Why can’t Sony take the 28/2, 55/1.8 culture forward? They started with lightweight great lenses and then completely forgot making more of it.
The left it to Zeiss Batis...which is targeted at the “excellent and quite fast but no so fast as to need to be huge if excellent” market.
